Visits
The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation and Urban Born jointly organized
a surprise visit to Curtiss Glen Hammond Middle School in Carson on November
22, 2005. During the visit, Johnel Langerston, president and founder of Urban
Born conducted an educational multimedia seminar with a powerful message for
the students. Langerston uses his intense personal story as a former federal
drug inmate and gripping documentary-style video footage to teach kids "It's
easier to catch on now, than to catch up later." The presentation also
featured guest appearances by Lil' Romeo (picture by Andre Gladden) and his
father Master P. The seminar culminated with an award for the students presented
to their principle, Dr. William Elkins.
The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation's Carson Middle School Visits
in celebration of Black History Month with renowned artist and former NFL player
Ernie Barnes. Barnes has had paintings commissioned by the NBA and other sports
figures and celebrities. On the eve of the 47th annual Grammy Awards, hip hop
superstar Kanye West unveiled the painting "A Life Restored" by
renowned artist Ernie Barnes – which depicts his profound near-death
experience from a car accident in late 2002 and became the inspiration behind
his debut hit single, "Through the Wire."
Along with the Carson Middle School Visits. Ernie Barnes was honored at the "Tribute
to Ernie Barnes" event on February 12, 2004, presented by The Home Depot
Center Charitable Foundation at the Home Depot Center Stadium Club in Carson,
CA. The celebrity event included a rare exhibition of new work by the artist,
and book signing for From Pads to Palette.
Annual Easter Egg Hunt
The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation and The Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation and will host the Third Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Friday, April 10th (Good Friday) at 12:30 p.m. at The Home Depot Center. Children ages 1-10 are welcome to participate in the annual hunt.

On Thursday, October 30th, the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation hosted its 2nd annual Treats-n-Suites Halloween Bash at The Home Depot Center. More than 200 children dressed in costume trick-or-treated around the facility's Halloween decorated Tennis Stadium Suites.
In addition to trick-or-treating, kids had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities such as bag and cookie decorating, coloring station which included the Jack-O Lantern coloring contest, face painting and breaking the Halloween Piñata. The LA Conservation Corps' Sea Lab's Traveling Tidepool exhibit was on site where kids could learn about and touch star fish, sea cucumbers and hermit crabs. Farmer John's Taste Express provided hot dogs for everyone to enjoy while the Galaxy Futboleros entertained everyone with their juggling skills.
LA Galaxy players Troy Roberts, Julian Valentin and Michael Gavin rounded out the event by passing out candy and Play-Doh, signing autographs and posing for pictures with the trick-or-treaters. Katrina Lopez, Miss LA Galaxy 2009 and Court members Karina Gutierrez and Samantha Vue assisted with the bag and cookie decorating and lead the children during the Treats-n-Suites Costume Parade.
The Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation would like to thank Ralphs of Torrance for its donation and all our volunteers for making Treats-n-Suites a success. Special recognition to the LA Galaxy Marketing, Ticket Operations, and Corporate Partnerships departments, Eric a Galaxy Rios member, AEG Human Resources, U.S. Soccer, the LA Sol, The Home Depot Center's Administrative and Engineering departments, and Levy Restaurants for decorating the suites.
The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation joined forces with the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation to serve a warm Thanksgiving meal to 250 local children and families who are in need. The seventh annual Foundations' Feast was held on Monday, November 23 in the American Express Stadium Club.
Staff and volunteers from the LA Galaxy, The Home Depot Center, Athletes' Performance and ESPN served Thanksgiving dinner and provided, activities and goodie bags for all kids in attendance.
For the seventh year in a row, Farmer John donated hams, and Home Depot Center food and beverage partner, Levy Restaurants supported the event by handling all the cooking, as well as preparing several traditional Thanksgiving side dishes, including mashed potatoes and gravy, seasonal vegetables and cranberry sauce. Cupcakes were provided by Two Chefs on A Roll and Marie Callender's Gardena provided pumpkin and apple pies.
The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation and California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH teamed up to present the inaugural "Music, Movies and More Symposium" on Friday, June 26. The unique program featured three afternoon sessions with professionals from the entertainment industry, including Grammy-award winning audio engineer, studio designer and author Dave Hampton, DJ Spinderella of Salt-n-Pepa and 38-year music industry veteran and Grammy-nominated Kashif, plus several others.
The free, one-day event featured three panel discussions, including music technology, the historical aspects of sound and music, computer music, recording and composition; visual arts, highlighting graphic design, performance, theater and digital media arts; and concluded with entertainment business, a discussion about business practices, business plans, marketing, promotion, public relations, industry "green" initiatives and booking.
Ticket Donation Program
Supporting educational opportunities for youth is central
to The Home Depot Center's mission. Throughout the year, we provide special
incentives to kids for reaching attendance goals, invite them to special events
at The Home Depot Center and provide on-going needed support.
Scholarship Program
This annual scholarship award is designed to award financial
assistance to deserving Carson High School seniors in support of their higher
education goals. A scholarship panel will review applications in March of each
year and make final determinations in May.
Toy For Tots Toy Drive
The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation collected new unwrapped toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program on Monday, December 7th through Wednesday, December 16th. The toys were delivered to children in need located in the city of Carson.

TOYS FOR TOTS GOAL:
The primary goal of U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to youngsters that will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders.
