Reading Garden Challenge
Carson-area/Los Angeles Unified School District elementary schools were invited to participate in the Reading Garden Challenge, a joint initiative of The Home Depot Center Chartable Foundation, Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation, and The Home Depot. We want children (grades K-5) to get a kick out of reading by participating in a four-week reading challenge by either reading by themselves or being read to for a minimum of 90 minutes a week for fun - not for homework or for other incentive programs. The winner received a Reading Garden built at their school by The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation, The Home Depot Center Staff, LA Galaxy Foundation, LA Galaxy Players, LA Galaxy staff and The Home Depot in celebration of Earth Day on April 22, 2009.
